Blooming Lavender Fields in Nova Scotia

The Atlantic Bubble is open at last! I've been watching Seafoam Lavender's Facebook page for a while and I knew that lavender was blooming. Time for a overnighter...

Nova Scotia! We've missed you...and PEI, and Ontario, and Alberta. Let's just say we've missing travelling and seeing family.

I have no idea why these windmills fascinate me at the border into Nova Scotia, but I take a picture of them every time.

Off the highway and onto the smaller roads to our destination of River John. We passed this little lighthouse in Wallace. Still about 40 km to go...

Almost there!

And we've arrived...

 So pretty!

First stop...washrooms. They have a lovely garden with...a bear!

Lots of signs...

Huh! Who knew there were so many kinds of lavender.

I did not know that lavender is a member of the mint family. Jim is allergic to mint. This might be interesting...

You could check out all the different varieties...

Heck...let's head for the field. Strangely, I expected to smell overpowering lavender, but I couldn't smell a thing. Definitely, when you touched them, but no lavender scent in the air.

You could pick a bouquet...

Or just wander...looking towards the gift shop.

Something about that purple is just so pretty...

A nice covered area to sit and admire the view. I headed for the gift shop where I purchased foot butter and lavender shortbread cookies. They were the bomb!

After that, we did some backtracking heading to the inn where we were staying for the night. We passed the Tim Horton's children's camp...I don't think I actually ever knew where it was before.

They do good work for a lot of children. Look how funny the clouds were...all puffy and then like someone had tried to wipe them clean.

I didn't take a photo of the inn so I swiped this from their website. The Amherst Shore Country Inn had been recommended by friends. It was certainly out of the way, but we were told the restaurant is amazing. Bring it on!

A lovely view from our room...

Lots of antiques...

Time for dinner! Dinner is a set menu at 7:30 each night with cocktails at 7:00. Each course has two options, which you select ahead of time.

They had me at "freshly baked loaf of bread..." It was delicious and they asked if you wanted to take the remainder with you. Hell, ya!

I'm not sure what I caught Jim looking at, but he was happy!

View from the dining room...

The statue was cute...I overheard the owner say it was given to her husband by his mother, as it reminded her of him and his sister when they were young.

Jim had asked if they had any Double IPA beer, which they didn't, but lo and behold, they brought this out for him to sample as they were considering stocking it. Bonus for Jim! He said it was excellent.

Dinner was soooo good.

I forgot to take a photo of dessert, but this was breakfast the next morning. Warm apple and cinnamon scones...

Blueberry pancakes and bacon. It was really superb. Highly recommend the restaurant and we would love to go back.

Time to head for home...we zipped through Amherst. So many beautiful Victorian homes and a cute downtown which was quiet on a Sunday morning.

Windmills! Maybe I'll always take a photo of them...

Pepper makes it hard to do the puzzles, but since we had been gone all of 26 hours and he was put out, I cut him some slack.

Our next trip is to PEI in September, but who knows what might pop up before then. So happy to see the COVID rules coming to an end...
