On our last sea day before arriving in Fort Lauderdale, we puttered around and enjoyed the ship. Once again, a Jenga competition in the Piazza. This time it was the officers vs. the guests. This young girl in the pink cowboy hat was a pro!
Bartenders showing off their mixology skills, as well as some dancing!
Salted caramel gelato...why did I wait until the last day to try this? It was probably a good thing that I did.
Last lovely sunset...
Jim still smiling despite all his war wounds...
And back in Fort Lauderdale...
Amen for the most patient porter ever, because in all of the chaos of arriving at the terminal, I made the rookie mistake of forgetting what level I had parked on. We found it! The mileage where we left off...
We headed to Savannah for our first night's stay...It took a little longer than we hoped and it was after 5:00 pm when we finally arrived.
Love the city and these trees so much!
We decided to stay at the swanky Desoto hotel for no reason other than it was within walking distance of the Crystal Beer Parlour. The first year we stayed in Savannah it was one of our favourite places to eat.
Lovely hotel...
The beautiful Cathedral of St. John the Baptist...
Bit too chilly to enjoy the pool area and we were tired. We did DoorDash and decided we would go to the Crystal Beer Parlour for lunch the next day.
And this was where our whole plan fell apart. I had terrible stomach pain in the middle of the night and the next morning we were on our way to a walk-in clinic, followed by a trip to emergency. I always loved this street. We would travel it frequently if we were going to the mall. This time it was to the hospital.
The care we got at the hospital was excellent. Diagnosis was gallstones and they set me up to see a surgeon. At that point we were thinking wait a minute...I'd really rather be back in Canada. So with some painkillers and a strict diet, we headed out. Dry chicken...yum. Seriously I didn't want anything to eat.
Repeat the next night. We called home to see if Jim's son or his wife could come and rescue us, as there was no way either of us could drive 3000 km.
This angel is our daughter-in-law, Nadine, who flew to North Carolina and rescued us. We couldn't have done it without her. I look pretty happy here and I was. We were close to home in Bangor.
The Canadian border! Jim told the agent I was sick and he asked if I needed help right then. We said no and he waved us through no questions asked. Thank you!
Trying to ignore the snow that had returned in our absence. New Brunswick! So happy to be home.
Final tally on the mileage...
And the greeting from the cats. They were less than impressed with us.I had surgery three days later and Jim got pneumonia two days after that. What a pair! We recuperated together. Here endeth this blog...
