New York...and then Home

We left Savannah, heading to New York for a few days, before continuing home. We passed this unique building in Triangle, Virginia. Interesting building for a city called Triangle! It's the National Museum of the Marine Corps. The design was inspired by the image of the Marines raising the flag at Iwo Jima.

About to go over the Delaware Memorial Bridge...the first span going eastbound was opened in 1951 and the second in 1968.

New York in the distance...

And here we are. It was a bit of a scramble to find our hotel. The Salisbury Hotel has a superb location across the street from Carnegie Hall.

A beautiful plaque dedicated to the officers and firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11.

Lots of glitz and lights...

And lots of plays to see...

Where we were seeing Lucky Guy with Tom Hanks. It was excellent. Here are Jim and Joanne, with Joanne's daughter, Teresa, and granddaughter, Zoe.

It's fun just to stand on the street and watch the changing billboards and the crowds of people...

Teresa and Zoe recommended the Carnegie Deli, so off we went. Our waitress was a real character. Joanne ordered a smoked meat sandwich with egg, and she said with her lovely Jamaican accent "You don't want that!" OK...we did as we were told. The portions were ridiculously huge...

But we weren't too stuffed to all share this piece of cake. Mmmm...perfect for 5 people!

We would definitely stay here again. The rates are excellent, the location is great, and the rooms are large (unusual for older New York hotels). They have fridges and microwaves and directly across the street was a little market, so we bought yogurt and cereal and enjoyed a healthy breakfast in our room.

We had fun in New York, but it was time to get home. Driving out of New York...don't the buildings look like Lego?

And mere minutes outside the city, this is what it looks like. A beautiful country setting...

Now that's a neat way to disguise a pole. From a distance, I kept trying to figure out what sort of tree it was!

Gorgeous drive...we were trying to ignore the white stuff on the ground.

Wheee! I felt like we were on a roller coaster!

Now that's a state motto...New Hampshire--Live Free or Die...

Maine--The Way Life Should Be!

Woot woot! I saw our first Canada sign. We were almost home now.

I thought we'd be held up at the border. I was certainly hoping they weren't going to open the trunk. I think it would have looked like one of those jack-in-the-boxes, where everything flies out! We had a wonderful agent and we zoomed right through.

Close to home now. Fredericton, here we come!

Our trip was just wonderful. In all, we covered over 8000 km. We can't wait to go back to Savannah next year!

MoMA--A Visit to the Museum of Modern Art

We visited the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

It's a beautiful building, and even first thing in the morning, there was a long line-up to get in.

I quickly abandoned the abstract exhibition. I guess I'm just not into lines and circles. If I'm going abstract, I want a Picasso. These kids were so astute and were making comments on what they thought the painting meant. It was pretty impressive!

This painting was a favourite for both Jim and me. It was absolutely stunning and overshadowed everything else in the room.

The museum is huge...

There was a lovely garden of sculptures, but it was closed...

Definitely worth the visit...so many different styles of art with something for everyone!
