It's cruise time! We were off to Rome for a Mediterranean cruise with Barb and Ed, our travelling friends. We hadn't seen them for a few years, so we were looking forward to catching up.
I was hoping for some lovely fall colours, but we were about a week too late. Mostly brown now...
Love the squiggly lines that rivers make...
Finally leaving Toronto for Rome, over two hours late. Waiting our turn for take off...this guy definitely looks like he's going first.
Hey! Lots of colour here...
Puffy clouds...
Glad to finally be on our way...
Getting there...
Making the turn towards Rome...
We had skipped the dinner offered on the plane the night before as we were trying to get into sleep mode. We figured we would wait for breakfast. This was breakfast...
Almost there...
Wow...that's a big lake. Beautiful countryside...
Lush and green...
And this is what the panic looked like. Crikey! People were practically running...
The lovely Anna was there to greet us. (I'm sorry to say I never took a picture of Anna.) She had been waiting for quite a while. Not only were we late leaving Toronto (which she knew), but there had been a medical emergency on our flight, so we had to wait for the medical team to come on board and take the passenger off.
We had decided to forgo the busyness of Rome and spend our time relaxing on Anna's farm near Tarquinia, closer to the cruise ship port.
Leaving the airport...it looked like a colourful, bingo board!
Lots of signs...agriturismo is clearly a good business in this area.
Our spot for the next three days...Barb and Ed were on the left, and we were beside them on the right.
Our room was Fragola, Italian for strawberry.
Jim was looking pretty perky considering our lack of sleep. By now it was 3:00 p.m. Italian time.
Sister Wife! So nice to travel again with Barb and Ed. It definitely was not too early for a glass of wine. Anna had the fridge stocked with wine and beer. The wine was quite good and made from their grapes.
And because that Air Canada breakfast was long gone and dinner wasn't served until 8:00 p.m., Anna kindly made us a snack of cheese and bread. It was sooo good.
The beautiful countryside...the little "roomba" lawn mower amused us. It would motor around and then park itself in a little garage to recharge.
The views were breathtaking...a grove of olive trees.
Looking back at our room on the left and the dining room on the right.
The weather was warmer than we expected, but because it was almost the end of October, the pool had already been closed.
Grape vines...
It was so peaceful and quiet...
Jim and Ed feeling pretty content...
I walked around a bit and spotted...a cat! I didn't approach it as it was enjoying a sun bath, but it was hard to contain myself!
Down the driveway...
I spotted a big dog enjoying a back rub...
We didn't make a mistake by choosing to stay here...
The roomba was still motoring around...
Barb and I went over to check out the dog. It turns out he had a brother (or sister). Barb was in her happy place!
Big babies!
It was getting close to dinner time...we were looking forward to it!
A little friend joined me on the wall...
Dinner! The prices were very reasonable.
We noticed their logo everywhere...and I do mean everywhere. Good marketing!
They make their own olive oil...
The logo on their plates...
This pasta was to die for...a perfect-sized portion and fresh bread drizzled with olive oil and balsamic.
The table was ready for breakfast the next morning...
And a flaming crème brûlée. Note to self: mix the liquor in once the flame is extinguished. I ate a big spoonful of straight liquor. Memorable...
Back to our rooms...I thought this was a rock at first until I bent down and looked closer. Nope, a big ol' bull frog. See ya!
We hit our beds ready for tomorrow's day of exploring...
