Biking in the Acadian Peninsula

I got an e-bike! My Camino friend, Lynne, suggested we head to the Acadian Peninsula and do some biking there. She has been there several times. Lead the way!

Love these huge chairs representing the Acadian flag!

The resort where we spent two nights. It was really nice.

A huge reception and convention centre...

A pool...we were killing time until our cottage was ready.

Because when you see a fence, you should take a picture with it!

Both of us!

The sky was looking very ominous. The birds on the roof were so perfectly lined up that I wondered if they were real.

Yup! Just hanging around...

There are 33 cottages and rooms in the hotel as well.

The ominous cloud burst just as we were getting ready to unpack the car.

Lovely view from the cottage...

Our cottage (#8) complete with its own pergola.

We quickly unpacked and drove to Inkerman, where we started our ride for the afternoon. The facilities are wonderful. Washrooms...

A cool bike rack...

Lots of signage and paved trails...

The trails were built on the old railway line. This little depot had phone chargers, bike repair tools and information about the railroad. Really well done.

Lots of greenery...

And little stations along the way to rest...

Lovely day for biking!

There were quite a few bikes, but very few walkers...

Lynne knew all the places to go. I was just following and taking pictures.

The bridge that we had driven across to get to Inkerman...

This is what you get when you say "Smile!!"

The remnants of a walking bridge that was set on fire in 2017. It was a huge loss for the community. In the background on the left is a beautiful church. Lynne said that she and her husband often stop there when they're biking and have a banana, so of course it became the banana church.

Banana Church up close...

We headed back to our hotel. This sweet little church has outdoor seating. Apparently, there are services held in the summer.

What in tarnation is this? Apparently, it used to be a water park. Not sure what the plan is for it now, but it had been recently painted.

The end to a good day!

Lynne's panorama...

And the sunset that night...it was lovely.

Up and at 'em...we were doing a full day of biking today. Heading towards Shippagan...

A picture perfect day...

First selfie of the day...

Ooh wait...what was this? A beautiful boardwalk...

With flowers and paintings along the way...

Absolutely stunning...the trails are amazing here.

The boardwalk ended...lots to do here.

New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre...will have to make a point to go in next time.

Selfie #2...

Good thing Lynne knew where she was going after we left the boardwalk. They have these painted doors along the way.

And the boats lined up at the marina...what a pretty place.

We were heading back to Inkerman now and then going to Caraquet. We only had one full day of biking and lots to see.

We stopped at one of the rest stops and spotted this heron.

Trying to get a better picture of him...

And then Lynne gave it a go. Heron flew away when I tried to get too close to it. Sorry, buddy!

The sky was just amazing that day...

Yay, signs! We were getting close to Caraquet.

How cute is this...

Such a sweet little break where, about now, I was not unhappy to get off the bike.

Our destination...when you see monsieur on the bike, you have arrived.

Grains de Folie...a bakery, library and performance venue. Inside the bakery, the line-up was long. Do not hurry. Relax.

I could have easily eaten two of these. It was later in the afternoon and breakfast had been a long time ago.

After being careful with using the pedal assist on the way there in case we needed it more on the return, we absolutely flew back from Caraquet.

Saw this beauty...Lynne said the standard answer is always '57 Chevy. Well, it was this time!

We went to check out the landmarks that we could see from our cottage...

Wow! Those spires!

And we could also see the cupola of this building from our cottage. It was originally a boarding school run by the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph. It's now a museum showing the history of the leper colony in the 1800s.

Ooh a pretty butterfly!

And at last, back at the cottages. We had to stop for a photo in these giant chairs. They were tricky to get into!

What a great day...we biked about 70 km.

Dinner got waylaid as we shared a bottle of wine and tried to order sushi, but without success. We switched gears completely and ordered a pizza. I think we should have eaten before now!

Ready to head home the next morning. Lynne mentioned a clothing store she thought I would like. Let's do it!

We stopped at a bakery for a snack. I had a lovely latte...

And a chocolate croissant. Lynne said it looked like a sloth's face. Well, now I can't unsee that!

An eclectic washroom at the bakery...

We stopped at the Ledges in Doaktown...food was very good.

And then because, why not, we headed to the McNamee-Priceville Footbridge. Jim and I had been there a few years ago. It's a fun stop.

The river was so low. It's been a very dry summer.

Our last selfie...

Unless you count our shadows...

It was a great little getaway!

Thanks, Lynne!
