A Double-Decker Bus Tour in Cayo Santa Maria

There is a little tourist bus that comes by the resorts and also takes you to the local market. You pay two pesos per person, so we decided to hop on and ride around for the tour.

The morning flower arrangement....

And we're off on the bus...old cars!

We were checking out the other resorts and getting the lay of the island...

Good to know the medical center and police are nearby...

This causeway also suffered significant damage during Hurricane Irma in 2017. You can see the rebar still sticking up.

Look how clear the water is...

It was a beautiful day for a ride on a double-decker bus...

Past the Dolphinarium, which we would be visiting later in the week...

Old cars!

And new resorts being built all the time...the first resort opened in 2001 and there are now 17 resorts on the island. There are no residents...all the workers are bused in and out daily.

Old cars!

We felt a few raindrops and decided to move downstairs on the bus. By now we had figured out that all the resorts we stopped at on the first part of the ride, we would be revisiting on the return. Our enthusiasm for seeing them the second time around wasn't quite as great! Love the windblown look...

The resorts of the island...I think we stopped at most of them...twice!

I think Cayo means island...

And here is La Estrella, the market. We decided we might go later in the week. Right now it was hot and looking like rain.

Home again!

And the long walk from Grand Memories back to the Sanctuary...Jim was pretty good at flagging down the carts. I was getting 10,000 steps a day walking back and forth.

The weather for the day...

Now that's a bottle of Chivas! Jim was getting more explicit in his drink requests. Scotch and other whiskies were sometimes interchangeable with the waiters, much to his chagrin.

A different design...

We were off to the Mexican restaurant that night, which was at Paraiso, the first of the three resorts. I hoofed it. It was a good walk...

Made it!

Jim told the server at the Mexican restaurant that he didn't want any water, so she filled his water glass with wine. I liked the comparison between his glass and mine!

This was the entertainment in the Paraiso lobby...each of the three resorts would have some kind of music at night. Esther, the guitar player, was very talented. We might have even danced! 😁

Walking through the Grand Memories resort on the way back to the Sanctuary...loved the clouds!

Another great day!

Tomorrow, we might actually go to the beach!
