Exploring the Resort in Cuba

Day 2 of our stay in Cayo Santa Maria included an orientation session by Sunwing. Due to the size of the resort, we decided this might be helpful, so we went off to find the theatre at Grand Memories.

OK...this really is a theatre. The session was good and we were off to have lunch.

Looking down from the balcony of the restaurant, I spied...a cat! I didn't have anything to feed him. I know we're not supposed to feed them, as fat cats don't hunt, but these guys were anything but fat. Next time, buddy...

The washrooms always had nice flower decorations...

Froggie had his own flower...

The bartender from the pool the previous day was working in the buffet and remembered us. A small tip goes a long way. He brought us over to his table. Cute heart made of flowers...

A different towel design each day...some were definitely more elaborate than others.

A different froggie in a wishing well...

One of our many selfies...

And because it was all downhill to Grand Memories from the Sanctuary part of the resort, it was all uphill on the way back. They did have motorized carts that would take you around, but they weren't always available when you wanted them. It was hot and humid, but for the most part, I tried to walk wherever we went.

Back down to Grand Memories theatre that night for some entertainment...

A sax player...he was pretty good.

Doesn't this showgirl looked thrilled to be having her photo taken?

And this is how the entertainment went...a children's show at 8:30 pm, followed by awards at 9:00 for games that went on during the day, followed by the entertainers at 9:30 pm.

They weren't always the best dancers, but I think they performed well in the hot and humid weather.

Lots of costume changes...

It was Day 3 before we finally went to check out the beach. Always a cute little arrangement outside the washrooms...

And the beach...seriously, one of the nicest beaches we've ever seen.

Back to the pool area...

And our arrangement for the day...not sure what this is!

Sometimes language was an issue. I'm pretty sure this face indicates that there is no way this is a scotch on the rocks.

The entertainment that night was Michael Jackson. How can you resist that? He was actually a pretty good dancer. None of the entertainment was actual singing, it was lip syncing and dancing.

Hmm...when he took his sunglasses off, the resemblance kind of ended.

I give them A for effort...they were working hard.

Walking back home by the pool area...

Tomorrow, we're planning to explore the island a bit on the hop on, hop off bus...
